Kashmiri Saffron

Provenance

Origin story

Each autumn, the fields of Pampore flush violet as Crocus sativus blooms for only a few precious mornings. Before sunrise, families move through the rows, plucking flowers and gently teasing out three crimson stigmas from each blossom.

It takes roughly seventy thousand flowers to yield a single kilogram of dried saffron. Kashmiri Mongra strands are prized for their deep color strength, honeyed bitterness, and lingering hay-and-violet aroma — a spice of ceremony, biryani, and celebration.
